Increase WAHM incomes

If you are lucky enough to have school going children, you are probably on the last stretch of summer before they go back to school. I know some go back at the end of this week and others the beginning of next, mine go back next Monday the 31st. I hope you’re all set books bought, uniforms ready etc.. :) I have to confess I’m not !! not a book bought or a pencil case sorted. I don’t have to worry about uniforms luckily cos they don’t wear any at their school. When school ended this year I just decided I was going to enjoy the summer, not think about school terms or routines until I needed to and despite the weather I’ve had a great summer ! I stepped back from work a good bit and I just enjoyed being at home.

Luckily I was able to do a lot of that because I still continued to earn money due to passive income streams I had set up and due to having great help with Nancy who continued to keep an eye on the website and answer all your emails. When you work from home, particularly if you are on your own, it’s important to have backup and other structures in place so that you can step away when needed and you know I’ve spoken about this before. I have to confess my income did drop a good bit this summer, much more so than other summers but what’s past is past and my goal moving forward is to really up the ante ! I’ve decided that I’m fed up of all this doom and gloom and people accepting that incomes are dropping and that that seems to be ok because it’s happening everywhere !. Well I didn’t like having my income drop during the summer (much as I enjoyed my summer !) and I’m not going to accept it going forward, so I want to increase my income this year, introduce new revenue streams and real get rocking ! So are you with me !! Don’t accept that incomes have to drop because of what’s going on around us, make sure you try and upset the pattern and incease your income. Whether you are just starting out or have been in business a while, try and make one positive change THIS week that will set you on the road to better financial results.

If you’d like to bounce this around with me, or even just ask a question that you’ve been wondering about, or want to share some ideas then join me in the iamawahm conference room next Tuesday 1st of September from 10.00am to 11.00am. I’m going to make myself available in the room for that hour sort of like an open office tuesday! so that you can just pop in, say hi, ask a question whatever you want. No need to stay for an hour or anything just pop in and say hello ! If you’d like to join me just make sure you are signed up to the chat list to get all details on how to enter the room. If you signed up on this list previously for a workshop or something no need to do so again, you’ll be sent all the details.

If you haven’t signed up you can do so here I Am A WAHM workshops

Working concerns for pregnant baker

Question: I am 6 weeks pregnant with our first baby. I am a baker and wanting to continue but realise it is heavy and hot work, up to 45 degrees and I want to know how I should work, any precautions I should take , when I should finish work?

Leigh’s Answer: Wow this is a very different question and I applaud you for thinking about this so early. Oh, and congratulations!

The first thing you should do is speak to your employer and discuss their policy on this issue as they may have already done this research on your behalf as part of their OH&S. If you haven’t told them yet for fear of reprisal you shouldn’t worry, employers in Australia have a responsibility to protect their staff. Then of course you should discuss this with your doctor or mid wife.

But there are things you can do and consider on your own, day to day. First of course is to be aware of your own body, you are going to feel faint and possibly nauseous, don’t try to be a hero, if you need to rest then do so. A general rule is if you were doing ‘that work’ or ‘that exercise’ etc before you were pregnant, then you can do it through your pregnancy.

Your body changes A LOT, such as your ligaments soften which can cause straining. Hence why people say don’t lift that you’re pregnant! While they are probably thinking the baby is in danger it is more that the mother can hurt herself. This type of work obviously requires you to stand for a long time, so the softening of ligaments can be an issue as your pregnancy progresses. Particularly in the third trimester as you will have a lot of internal pressure and your circulation can become affected causing problems like varicose veins, and you may experience strong groin and leg pains. You will need to rest more and be able to sit down more often.

If you are lifting or loading ingredients, the “experts” say you should not do this past about 20-24 weeks. You can ask for a reassignment in your workplace, maybe you can work on the counter later in your pregnancy.

Working in a hot environment doesn’t pose any direct issues on it’s own to the baby, but you need to drink plenty of water and eat high energy foods (if you are up to eating). If you are feeling faint, step out and get fresh air and tell a friend that you work with to keep an eye on you. If you have medical conditions that could affect your blood pressure etc then you really need to reassess your working situation, your own little bun is the most important.

Mums Picky About Work from Home Offers

There’s a new brand of ‘mum’ out there and she is a tiger to deal with. Mums have long been the target of advertisers. Smart companies know that when it comes to shopping and buying decisions in households, ‘Mum’ is leading the way.

For decades, companies have focused on getting mothers to look at their products. For example, Jif® peanut butter has long used the slogan ‘Choosy Moms Choose Jif.’ Some companies, like Tylenol® focus on reassuring parents that their brand is the #1 brand recommended by pediatricians. We can all think of many ways that companies target mums and work to build trust if we stop and focus on it.

However, there is a change in the wind when it comes to purchasing products, buying services, and exploring other possibilities. These days the Internet has opened up a world of options for mums. One of the biggest and most promising choices available to a mum in this day and time is the ability for her to work from home and bring in extra income. With today’s current economic conditions, it is becoming even more critical that she bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan too.

With all that being said, owners and companies of legitimate businesses and opportunities now have to ‘face the tigress’ complete with all her skepticism. When a person has been burned, lied to or even scammed, it is very hard to gain that person’s trust even though you are presenting her with a legitimate and credible way to earn income.

It’s a great time for mums to explore working  for themselves. Seek a company with credentials you can trust. It is true that there are legitimate, ethical and reliable ways to work from home. It is true that there are hundreds of scams out there. Look for a company that provides you with the following information:

· -Company’s information on their products and services
· -Company’s free training and ongoing mentoring
· -Company Credentials (should be easily verified)
· -Company Growth Chart, Length of time in Business
· -Annual Income Statistics
· -Company ‘re-order’ or ‘return shopper’ potential.

There are some basic questions that everyone should ask when looking into a reliable way to work for yourself. The answers are pretty basic too and should be a standard for all companies. You’ll know how do-able the business will be for you with the right questions and the right answers.
